Despite those
experiences,I certainly wouldn't rule out hunting a young dog with
an older, more experienced animal. For most of their first season, many
puppies are,for all practical purposes,running blind--checking out
butterflies,grasshoppers and occasionally,game birds.
Getting the experience
Running a
puppy with an older, experience bird dog can at least get the youngster
sniffing around in the right location, and when paired up this way
a pup will invariably get into more birds more quickly than he would
if left to figure things out entirely on his own.But ounce a young
dog shows me he's beginning to actively hunt--if only a few minutes
at a stretch--I stop running him with other dogs and let him work
out the details of finding and pointing birds by himself,no matter
how excruciatingly slow that process may seem...

HUNTING WITH THE FRENCH SPANIEL AND THE LONG HAIRED
GERMAN POINTER ...
The French Spaniel and the Langhaar (GLP) are extraordinary DOGS! they excel in pointing, fetching and retrieving small games! The minute they go in the woods... their instinct automatically starts!... fetching for the birds! That is their primary "Quality". The minute they smell the odour of a bird(primarily woodcock and partridge)they stop automatically and points in the direction of the bird! Now their job is not to move until the gunner shoots the bird and orders to fetch! And that is when the dogs will go and find the shoot bird.
The French Spaniel and the Langhaar (GLP) shows a great interest in woodcock, partridge and duck... and doesn't mind going after rabbits! They're DOGS who will be much different than many other types of hunting dogs... they're "Calm and Methodical", they will "work with and for You" in close range and they always keep an eye on you... Wherever you hunt... dirty woods, swamp, field, in the bush or in the trail getting back to the camp... the French Spaniel and the German long haired pointer are the ideal hunting dogs YOU NEED!!!
